CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF PRYTANIA!

Dr. Brian Ghere Q&A:

Why did you decide to become a veterinarian?
First time I decided to become a veterinarian was when I was about 7 years old. Our family had a springer spaniel named Cookie. My two brothers and I were playing ball in our front yard in a quiet suburb . The ball rolled into the street and Cookie chased after it, and ran right in front of a bicyclist. The bicyclist couldn’t completely stop before bumping into Cookie . Cookie was screaming and ran into our bushes. She turned out to be far more frightened than injured, but I was very distraught and frustrated that I didn’t know what to do to help her. So I vowed I would go to school to learn how to be a Dr for animals .

What do you enjoy most about being a veterinarian?
Getting to know and care for so many wonderful pets and their families .
I have clients with pets now whose parents were my clients .

What makes you unique in your field?
Well , I likely take after my grandfather . He was a dairy farmer and I spent a lot of my summers out west on the dairy farm .
My grandmother said that Grandpa must be a great farmer , because He was often found outstanding in his field .

What’s Free time ? I have seven children ,  and I have no idea what Free Time is.

Dr. Nancy Nathan Q&A:

Why did you decide to become a veterinarian?
I decided to become a veterinarian when I was in high school. I had taken one of our four dogs to our vet and it just clicked. I thought it would be a career that would be both challenging and fun and I was right! It combines my love for animals with my interest in science and medicine. It was the perfect job for me.

What do you enjoy most about being a veterinarian?

I love seeing my patients but I also really enjoy getting to know their owners. I like having variety in my days too – some days I see more dogs and some days it’s all cats! I really love seeing my patients through all stages of their lives. I feel like I get to see them as babies and follow them all the way to their senior years. It’s a wonderful job and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

What makes you unique in your field?
I think I’m unique because I really tried to establish a bond with my clients. I get to know them and I enjoy hearing about their lives as well as their pets. I try to be empathetic and sensitive and I think these days we all appreciate that kind of connection.

What would you like to say to your clients?
I would like to tell my clients how much I’ve enjoyed working with them and how much I truly appreciate their loyalty and connection. I am so grateful for every person who has followed me through my 30 year career. I also would like them to know that I really understand their love for their pets because I feel the same way about my own.

What do you like most about your new space?
I love our new digs! I love all the windows and all the natural light we now have. I also really love how roomy it is – we have space to move around and everyone feels much happier here.

Tell us about your pets.
I have a little Shih-tzu mix rescue dog named Frankie who is approximately 13 years old. She is my heart and I take her everywhere. I also have a 22 1/2 year-old cat named Blackie who wakes me up every morning to tell me “hello”. She has more energy than I do! I also have a 10-year-old cat named Cassie who is my father’s cat. When he died I took her in and I love her dearly. She had never lived with the dog and now she has adjusted well and cuddles on the couch with all of us.
